Our new member of St Francis’ Episcopal Church, Colby Roberts
Friends – with approval of Bishop Marc and concurrence of the vestry, we will have Mr Colby Roberts as our transitional deacon beginning 7 December. As you may recall, we’ve had deacons and transitional deacons in the past, serving the parish in various ways. Colby continues this tradition; he sends us a letter:
Dear Friends in Christ,
Because I will soon begin serving the St. Francis’ community as a deacon, Father Eric has asked that I introduce myself. It is truly an honor to be asked to serve at St. Francis’ and I look forward to the time we can meet in person. My calling to ordained ministry is a late vocation. I have been a professional singer for over thirty years and have spent the last twenty-nine years as a chorister with San Francisco Opera. I was nominated for ordination by All Saints’ San Francisco and received a Master of Divinity in 2014. I then received a Master of Arts in Biblical Languages in 2016. In 2018, I became a postulant and will be ordained a transitional deacon on December 5. I have continued to serve at All Saints’ as a member of the vestry, stewardship officer, head sacristan, and a regular member of the altar party. I initiated a monthly Senior Day program and assisted with the church’s food program. I have also been recording Morning Prayer every weekday and posting the service on YouTube. On December 7, I will begin praying Morning Prayer at St. Francis’. I am excited by the prospect of serving with you and look forward to getting to know you.
Yours in Christ,
Colby Roberts
